Jesse Morris, Age 29

Driver, 65552, 14th Battery, 4th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.

KSLI cap badge
Royal Field Artillery Cap Badge.

Although Jesse (a miner) is recorded as living at 5 Wigan Rd, Atherton, he could well be the J. Morris on the memorial. You will see from the 1911 census shown below (see Davids book) that he was born in Dawley. He was living with Edward & Margaret Morris but is listed as a boarder so they may have been his uncle and Aunt.

The only other information at present is that he died whilst serving in Mesopotamia (now Iraq) whilst serving with the Royal Field Artillery on 30th May 1916 and is remembered with honour at the Amara War cemetery which being ‘Remembered’ points to the fact that his body was never found

Extra info:
This J. Morris (Jesse) is the one that came from Dawley, in the 1891 census he is living at Lawley Common and born Dawley, by 1901 the family was living in Bank Road, Dawley Bank, in the 1911 census as David says, he was living as a Boarder at Lancashire, I can’t find a connection with Edward Morris? His Father and mother in 1911 are living at 2 Spring Hill, Dawley, (Bottom of Chapel Street) on their own.
